200 ACRES offers an immersive soundwalk through the Penn State University campus and arboretum, inviting participants to reflect on the interplay between human influence and natural landscapes. This experience transforms the ordinary into something extraordinary.

To participate in the soundwalk, visitors need to download a bespoke app onto their mobile devices and use headphones. The journey begins at the Eisenhower Auditorium, where the app guides users along both familiar and hidden paths, providing fresh insights into commonly traversed areas. As you navigate, your movements dynamically influence the audio and textual content you encounter.

The narrative is enriched with evocative metaphors, historical context, and personal reflections. Through 200 ACRES, participants embark on a personal meditation exploring the physical, cultural, and geographical intricacies of their surroundings.

Optimal Timing

The soundwalk is best experienced from sunrise to sunset. After downloading the app, participants can choose their preferred time within these hours. The walk typically lasts about 60 minutes, covering roughly one mile over various terrains including grass, pavement, gravel, and natural soil. It commences at the Eisenhower Auditorium and concludes in the Arboretum. A return trip to the starting point takes approximately 15 minutes on foot.

The morning or late afternoon periods are particularly recommended; during these times, sunlight often produces a striking visual atmosphere.
